For quite some time now, I have been in hiding – just hibernating from the world – and not putting myself out there in any way. I hide behind my writing, I hide physically in my house, I hide certain aspects of myself that I do not think others would accept. I can relate to the lyrics from the song “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls, “I don’t want the world to see me because I don’t think that they’d understand.” I fear putting myself out there and not being understood, but I think in order to be understood, we have to put ourselves out there and share our story – oftentimes what we are enduring is relatable and can actually help others who are going through something similar. We think we have to endure our struggles by ourselves, like no one can really help me, so I might as well just do it on my own. In actuality, God has placed many people in your life to help you when you need it the most – it is not a coincidence that you crossed paths with a certain someone at a certain time – it is intentional and God ordained. We must be willing to be vulnerable, share our hearts with others, and be seen, truly seen by those in our lives. In doing so, we can cultivate connection and understanding instead of judgement and ridicule. Share your inner world with others and allow them to understand your story.
Be brave. Be seen. Be heard.
Peace.
