I’ve thought about this quote quite a bit over the years, as I have faced ‘darkness’ in various manifestations. In those moments, Hafiz was saying look within- you have the power, the light, to overcome the darkest night of the soul. We all have that capacity – to convert darkness to light or to change one thought from a negative, self-critical one to a loving, self-promoting one, or to choose gratitude over complaining, or to simply see and appreciate the beauty surrounding us. We have the capability to flip the switch, or to turn that light on within us. A few years ago, I was visiting a friend in Montana, and one day, he suggested that I try a THC energy drink. Unbeknownst to me, it was highly concentrated with over 100mg of THC in a small bottle. I took a couple of small sips, and within minutes, I started feeling higher and higher, like waves were washing over my being. He suggested that I take a walk around the property, so I did just that, and decided to take a little respite on a plank of wood laying on the ground. When I did, the most interesting thing transpired – it was like I was having a conversation with God about light and darkness. I kept praying to God, “show me the light, show me the light,” and when I did, I received this download of spirit filled thoughts, or thoughts that felt aligned with Truth. How did I know? When I thought those thoughts, I immediately felt comfort and ease, not angst and upset. It was then I realized that this ‘darkness’ that I face is created in my mind. The “enemy” or some force that isn’t working in our favor, attacks us via our minds, as that is where we can be easily manipulated to believe untruths. I think Hafiz was hinting at that with the quote above – when we are in the darkest of times, allow the beautifully radiant, bright light that exists within us to shine! Allow our thoughts to be centered around God’s truth, around goodness, around beauty, around grace, around gratitude, around anything BUT untruth.
Think Spirt Filled Thoughts.
Peace.
