“And the time came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” Aanis Nin

I have reflected on this quote quite a bit over the years, and at various moments of my life, it has resonated deeply. We sometimes come to a fork in the road in our lives; perhaps, the road we have been traveling down no longer serves us in the way it once did, and we are craving something new – a new beginning. We reach that fork and wonder which way is best for us? Left, or right? There is a passage in the bible, Isaiah 30:21, that reads, “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.” Sometimes we get so in our heads that we cannot see clearly what our next step may be. This passage offers so much comfort and reassurance in that it’s saying sometimes you have to try a path and if it isn’t right, or is, God will speak to us clearly and definitively and tell us if we are answering His invitation or not. Maybe the key here is to actually take a step in some sort of direction so we can then know if we are heading down a path that will ultimately lead to growth, or healing, or some other positive outcome? Sometimes we have to get so fed up with ourselves, our old ways, our old patterns of doing things, that we (out of exhaustion) say, “OK YES! I will try that,” and in doing so, maybe we afford ourselves the possibility to blossom, to become all that we are meant to be.

Go in some direction.

Peace.
